Each new year brings the opportunity for a fresh start and this year’s top paint colours promise to soothe, uplift, and refresh your lake home space. We've poured through the 2024 trending paint colours and chosen our top picks for the cottage. These sublime shades combine luxury with elements of nature in this years colours and seamlessly blend into the environment.
Lake Blue Nova
What happens when you mix violet and blue? An opportunity to dive into one of the big three lakes of Muskoka! We love this year’s new blue hue because, under certain sunset skies, it truly is a reflection of Lake Rosseau, Lake Joseph and Lake Muskoka.
Using this shade on an accent wall or throughout your cottage not only adds a nautical vibe but invites the outdoors in. Blue Nova by Benjamin Moore is a perfect paint colour to break up space and add some character to your cottage interior.
We particularly like incorporating this rich and grounded blue shade into a kitchen or lakeside dining room. Benjamin Moore says this hue is inspired by the night sky, but we are sticking with the blue lake waters of Muskoka.
Cracked Pepper at the Cottage
Behr’s Colour of the Year for 2024 is Cracked Pepper and we think this soft black adds a luxurious touch to any cottage as it emanates elements of nature. After all, this is why we are in Muskoka. The best of both worlds Cracked Pepper could be used in a whole room such as a theatre room, great room with floor to ceiling stone fireplace or as an accent wall in a smaller room.
Because of its touch of softness, we especially like this as a backdrop for a luxe, romantic bedroom. Applied as a backdrop for your bed it instantly provides an air of intimacy. Want your cottage to be the envy of all who enter? Use Cracked Pepper to create a signature elegant look that is as inviting as it is relaxing.
Look Upward to the Muskoka Sky
Imagine a sunny day at the lake. This light blue shade is reminiscent of daydreaming while lying on the dock looking upward to billowing white clouds adorning the blue sky. This colour is bound to infuse any cottage space with peace, tranquillity, and good vibes and coordinates beautifully with both white and natural colour linen.

When we saw Upward by Sherwin-Williams, we immediately thought powder room but this easy breezy shade of blue with grey undertones could be used on accent pieces or walls throughout the cottage. This would be an ideal cottage colour when used as a pop of blue bliss among whitewashed wood or even painted near-white adjoining walls. This subtle and calming yet elegant colour would also be perfect in a nursery or yoga and meditation room. Inhale that fresh Muskoka air and exhale slowly.
Limitless Luxury at the Cottage
Limitless by Gliddon brings a warm neutral shade that exudes luxury in its 2024 top paint colour that could be used literally anywhere at the cottage. If you are tired of the same white that seems to be in many high-end cottages, we suggest switching things up with an elevated neutral such as Limitless. Reminiscent of sunny lake days at the cottage yet with a soft, dreamy feel, this may well be the new top paint colour for the cottage. Not yellow, not beige, think warm honey.
This versatile neutral colour could be used everywhere including on kitchen cabinets, entire walls or as a refreshing base for small spaces. Limitless is in keeping with the state of grace we find in nature and within ourselves when we spend time at the cottage.
Viridis Green Landscape
The Latin word viridis literally translates to green and we are green with envy over anyone who uses this luxurious Eden wallpaper and its complimentary paint shade viridis. Merging luxury with landscape this effervescent shade presents a soft, fresh look-feel, stimulates ones creative juices and evokes feelings of relaxation and bliss all at once.
We particularly like the new Eden wallpaper and viridis by Graham and Brown in a powder room, or primary ensuite at the cottage. Create the ultimate spa atmosphere with an open window to the sublime Muskoka air scented with trees and fresh morning dew. This luxe wallpaper would also make a perfect backdrop to a pillowy soft bed draped in green velvet.
